Your Alt Text
In this issue we are going to cover a few request I
got in my email to help explain alt text and how to optimize it for
Google here are the basics that I have found have made a big
difference in some of my websites as far as rankings go although
this can be a little difficult to achieve in some websites like the
one I working on now but it can be done.
Make no mistake about it some of the search engines
use the alt text on your images in a big way to determine what your
site is about this way it helps to insure that it is placed in under
the proper search terms in their directories there are many many
factors that are involved in how a site gets ranked but if you are
lacking in one area like keywords in the text itself the alt tags
just may take up the slack for you.
For those of you who do not know what alt text is
its simply the little message that pops up when you place your mouse
over a picture that is located in a website to see this put your
mouse over the man and women picture on the left and see what
pops up.
Ok notice that I put in 3 keywords that pertain to
this site which are website marketing newsletter now look at
the html of this newsletter just hit view source see the title of
this newsletter it is Marketing Newsletter all I did was add
a few keywords to my alt text to match the keywords in the title so
if I was was marketing for example car tires I would make sure my
title of the website had those keywords in it as well as my alt
text.
OK here is the proper html to add alt text to your
jpg etc..

You see the text highlighted in red you get into
your html of your site and simply type that in using your own little
message of course that matches your own site and that's it OR IS IT?
Well for all you people out there that are saying
OMG this stuff is so basic I cant believe I am even reading this
crap well ok try this one on for size lets say your website title
is???? Homers Rusted Cans well here is a little tip lets say
you only have 1 pic or jpg on your website well you are going to
have to add at least 2 more and here is why.
Because your first jpg is going to read something
like this
At Homers we
offer you the best deals.
Your second jpg is going to read something like
this.
Rusted that's the
way we like them
And your third jpg will be this.
Cans is what we
specialize in.
Do you see what I just did I used only 1 keyword
(All the same words that are in your title of your site) in each alt
text of each jpg image also notice I placed the keywords as close as
possible to the very beginning of each sentence in each jpg.
But you must remember everyone can see these
sentences so when you write them they must make sense other wise
people are going to get turned off real fast to your product or
site.
Ok stop yelling at me because I know a few of you
are already did and you are saying I already know that well did you
know that prominence of your keywords
also is counted in your alt text?? do you all remember when
we talked about prominence??
Well this is a easy way to increase your keyword
prominence of your website (Prominence being keywords placed
first in a sentence) without
exceeding your keyword density percentage on your page.
Also this is a good time to mention that about
99.999 % of all the keyword and density analyzers out there will not
pick this little trick up ok folks try this on just one of your
sites and let me know what happens I know you will have a pleasant
surprise.
Oh guess what you have to do now you need to make
sure that when a search engine sees spiders your site that it is
being read the proper way here is what I mean by this when the
search engine spiders your site it is like reading a book so in your
alt tags it must see your first keyword first which in this case is
Homers then
Rusted then Cans in the same
order as in your title.
This way it will see text that relates directly to
the title of your website remember when we cover titles?? and the
importance of them I mean after all you don't want it to see
CANS RUSTED HOMERS it might think your
porn or something LOL ok enough of the dumb jokes but I think you
get the idea.
Some of you may be wondering why not just put the
whole phrase into all the alt tags well you can but when you do this
you start to lose the prominence of each individual keyword and that
is just as important in other words it is just as important to start
off a sentence with one of your keywords as it is to start it off
with the whole keyword phrase.

etc.. as well as prominence of your site.

Also remember PROMINENCE is now a factor because you
placed all your website title keywords at the beginning of
the text in each alt text so as a result your site is just screaming

is actually on your page text. I

is click friendly and set it up so people have to click links in
your website to get information all it does is HELP YOU in every way
possible LINK POPULARITY AND EXCHANGING LINKS VERY IMPORTANT
Also don't forget good website marketing begins with
good website optimization and the reason is very clear in order to
have good website marketing you must have it optimized and the
reason is it must be optimized to place well in the search engines
which will equal more traffic which means good website marketing I
cant believe I just wrote that?
But as far as alt text goes it is
true you can rank well in the engines without having to go through
all this but lets say you do rank well without this it is like I
said in the beginning if your site has enough muscle in other areas
like page rank, keyword density; and other things we will cover
later then a optimized alt text will become less and less important
but if you are just starting out with a new site it can work
wonders.

I did say this might take a little work on your part
right? well all good things do and optimizing a website is no
exception it does take time and effort but once you get the hang of
it you will be surprised how much easier it will get.
